New studio

From 1st April 2011 I will be taking on a new studio in Wakefield.

The studio is on the ground floor of The Art House close to Westgate railway station.  The Art House is a custom-built studio and workshop complex with more than a dozen studios, currently occupied mainly by painters, printmakers and at least one ceramicist.  The studios regularly take part in Wakefield’s Art Walk alongside about ten other venues.  This happens on the last Wednesday evening of every second month (next one in May) and usually attracts around 200 people.  There will be a special Art Walk weekend on 21st-22nd May to co-incide with the opening of The Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield.  I hope to have my studio fully functioning and open for that event and the regular Art Walk on the following Wednesday.  Please drop in if you are in the area.

Wetherspoons commission

I’ve recently completed another double commission for a new Wetherspoons hotel in Ripon, North Yorkshire.

The two paintings, in acrylic on board, are each 4 feet wide by 3 feet high. One shows the three doorways at the west end of Ripon Cathedral with the shadows of nearby trees cast across the facade by the late afternoon sun.  The other is of a pair of boats moored in the canal basin close to the centre of the city.  The hotel is ‘The Unicorn’ in the corner of Ripon’s market place and is due to open in early April 2011.
